Step 1: Dust or Vacuum First
Start by removing loose dust and dirt. You can use a dry microfiber cloth, a vacuum with a brush attachment, or even a Swiffer duster. Begin at one end of the room and work your way around. Getting rid of surface dust makes the deeper cleaning go faster.
Step 2: Mix a Gentle Cleaning Solution
For painted baseboards, mix a few drops of dish soap in a bucket of warm water. If your baseboards are wood, use a wood-safe cleaner or a little vinegar and water. Avoid harsh chemicals that can strip the paint or finish.
Step 3: Wipe and Scrub Gently
Dip a soft sponge or cloth in your cleaning mix, wring it out well, and wipe along the baseboards. For stubborn marks or scuffs, a soft-bristle brush or an old toothbrush works perfectly. Always rinse your cloth as you go to avoid spreading dirt.
Step 4: Dry with a Clean Cloth
Once you’ve finished scrubbing, go over the baseboards with a dry microfiber towel. This step prevents streaks and helps them shine. If you want to go the extra mile, you can rub a dryer sheet along the surface to repel dust for a few weeks.
Step 5: Keep Them Cleaner Longer
Try to dust your baseboards every two to three weeks. Doing a light wipe-down regularly makes deep cleaning much easier and helps your whole home look brighter.
